Food Storage

Well, we have finally decided to work on a little food storage... :) We've never really had the chance to do anything because we are constantly moving and I don't want to mess with it... and whatever left over food we do have, I usually end up giving away... ( Jeff & Liz) So, we've had the feeling a lot lately of how important it really is!!! So, here's the beginning step of the storage that we did today... :)
hahaha, I think this is funny... our first little gallon of water.. :) we will probably do a lot of bottled water too, but we go through so much milk, that I thought why not do this too! Can't hurt to have a lot of water!! So, here's our pathetic start to storage... I'm excited to take more pictures as it grows!!

that's funny! way to get started. our food storage consists of instant potatoes. ben came home a couple of weeks ago and said i have a surprise for you. the trunk and back seat of the car was packed full of instant potatoes. if all else fails and we don't get anything else before the end of the world, we have enough to last us a year!!

You're FUNNY! Gotta start somewhere! I still totally have your spices down in our storage if you want to add those!!!

just an FYI :) you really shouldn't use milk cartons to store water. 2 reasons: 1-milk proteins are almost impossible to get out of the plastic, which could lead to the growth of bacteria. 2 (most important reason) the plastic in milk cartons breaks down very easily, which means you'll have a flood :)
i had water stored in milk cartons til i learned all this at church!
2-liter bottles work better, but the 5 gallon buckets work best. you should also keep it somewhere dark and cool, as light and warmth can lead to bacteria.
good luck!

At least you are putting it together. Food storage can be such an interesting task... We don't have alot either...just some canned stuff and flour & sugar! But we're working on it. I try to just buy extra of the stuff that we eat and store it away. Thats the best way! If you want, e-mail me your address and I can send you copies of this cool book that my mom's ward put together. Its VERY helpful!! finnfancies@live.com
